Short answer

On the login screen — in the mobile app or the web app — tap Forgot password?, enter the email on your account, and follow the instructions Civic.ly emails you to set a new password. You set and reset your own password; nobody issues one to you.

Detail

The reset flow:

  1. Open the Civic.ly app, or go to the web app at app.civic.ly.
  2. On the login screen, tap Forgot password?.
  3. Enter the email address on your account.
  4. Civic.ly emails you the next step — follow it to set a new password.
  5. Log in with your new password. The same login works on the app and the web.

If you've never logged in before (a brand-new account), use Set up your account on the login screen instead of Forgot password — enter your email, tap Send code, type in the verification code we email you, and set your password. See How do I add a new user to a Civic.ly account?.

Watch-outs

  • Reset starts on the login screen of either app. The mobile app now has both Forgot password? and Set up your account right on the login screen, so you no longer have to switch to a web browser to reset. (This changed — older guidance said the reset was web-only.)
  • The email goes to the address on the account. If your email has changed and the account hasn't been migrated, the message goes to the old address. See How do I migrate a Civic.ly user to a new email address?.
  • No temporary passwords. Civic.ly no longer sends temporary passwords for new accounts — new users set their own via Set up your account and a verification code.
  • Check your junk folder if the email doesn't arrive within a minute or two before requesting it again.
