Routine water-safety Checks for buildings — sentinel outlet and storage-tank temperatures, TMVs, showers and calorifiers — the core of routine legionella control in small premises. Follow the figures and outlets named in your own legionella risk assessment.

Before you use this checklist: you don't build these — they're built in and matched to your assets. To put one on someone's phone, create an inspection (or a job) on the asset and pick the checklist. A checklist only appears for the right asset type. See How to Use a Checklist.

Water Outlet Check

Covers: Basin, Drinking fountain, Tap. recommended weekly.

CONDITION
Overall Condition
NewGoodFairPoorCritical
ⓘ Guidance
Your overall judgement of the water outlet based on every check above. This updates the asset's condition record. Use "New" only for a recently installed unit, "Good"/"Fair" for serviceable units, "Poor" where several issues need attention, and "Critical" where the water outlet is unsafe or non-functional and must be replaced or serviced now.
COMPLIANCE
Cold Water Temperature
Enter a number (°C)
ⓘ Guidance
Record the stabilised cold-water temperature in °C. The platform stores the figure; it does not auto-flag. Guidance bands: 20°C or below is satisfactory; 20.1-25°C is borderline - monitor; above 25°C is a Legionella risk - investigate and record.
Hot Water Temperature
Enter a number (°C)
ⓘ Guidance
Record the stabilised hot-water temperature in °C. The platform stores the figure; it does not auto-flag. Guidance bands: 50°C or above is satisfactory; 45-49.9°C is borderline - monitor; below 45°C is a Legionella risk - investigate and record.
Outlet Flushed
FlushedPartially FlushedNot Flushed
ⓘ Guidance
Run the water outlet for the required flush period (e.g. 5 minutes hot and cold) to control stagnation. "Partially Flushed" = flushed for less than the required period; "Not Flushed" = not flushed this visit - a Legionella control gap to record.

Operational Cold Water Tank Check

Covers: Cold Water Storage Tank. recommended monthly.

CONDITION
Overall Condition

ⓘ Guidance
Your overall judgement of the cold water storage tank based on every check above. This updates the asset's condition record. Use "New" only for a recently installed unit, "Good"/"Fair" for serviceable units, "Poor" where several issues need attention, and "Critical" where the cold water storage tank is unsafe or non-functional and must be replaced or serviced now.
Physical Damage
SoundDented or CorrodedCracked or Holed
ⓘ Guidance
Inspect the body, fittings and fixings of the cold water storage tank for dents, deep corrosion, cracks or splits. Surface scuffs are fine. "Dented or Corroded" = damage to record and monitor; "Cracked or Holed" = cracks, holes or splits that could affect safe operation - take out of service for inspection.
ENVIRONMENTAL
Descale & Hygiene
CleanNeeds CleaningScaled or Contaminated
ⓘ Guidance
Descale and check the cleanliness and hygiene of the cold water storage tank and its outlet. "Needs Cleaning" = limescale, dirt or biofilm to clean off; "Scaled or Contaminated" = heavy scale or visible contamination - clean and disinfect, and review the Legionella controls.

Operational Thermostatic Mixing Valve Check

Covers: Thermostatic Mixing Valve. recommended monthly.

FUNCTIONALITY
Functional Test
FunctioningPartial FunctionFailed TestNot Tested
ⓘ Guidance
Run a mixed-temperature and cold-supply failsafe test and confirm the thermostatic mixing valve responds correctly: the blended temperature is correct and the valve shuts off on cold-supply failure. "Partial Function" = it part-works; "Failed Test" = it does not respond and must be reported immediately; "Not Tested" = the test could not be carried out this visit (record why).

Using these checklists in Civic.ly

Every checklist here is built into Civic.ly as a standard template — you don't recreate it. Add the asset, create the inspection or job (standalone or via a routine), pick the checklist, and it appears on the assigned person's phone, with any fault raising a defect automatically. Common Questions

Your legionella risk assessment names them — typically sentinel outlets (nearest and furthest from the heater) plus little-used ones, which should also be flushed.

Conventional guidance is hot reaching outlets at 50°C+ and cold below 20°C — but follow your own risk assessment and have a competent person confirm your regime.
